Very long ago, Kou's family, the Shinsuke Clan, were known for raising their boys in the influence of war, a time-period when Samurai were much more relevant and needed serve lords or certain provinces in order for certain lands to be conquered. The clan symbol of the Shinsuke clan was the fiery bird, the Phoenix. During this time period, samurai lords and warlords were looking to recruit seasoned, bred, and willing samurai. The Shinsuke Clan's village reside mainly in the mountains of Doma, where the boys of their village are trained in the ways of the sword, the bow, and the body. Each boy was made to pick up a wooden sword by at least the age of seven, Kou included. Kou's father in particular, was a well-known Samurai warrior of his clan, but soon died in battle. It was known for those of the Shinsuke bloodline to bare bright and brilliant golden eyes, near-matching the true form of the Phoenix. A trait which Kou prominent held, thanks to the bright red eyes of his father, and the somber amber eyes of his mother. Amongst the boys and young men that Kou trained with, he turned out to pick up the sword quickly, but was far slower with the bow. Though.. Kou was known as lazy most of the time, and overly talkative.
